Surprise sale of art for Megan

News

Rebecca Mauger

Megan Hannah got a ‘‘big surprise’’ when she found out someone wanted to buy one of her photographs. She was exhibiting her artistic, edited photos in one of Arts Collective Whangamata exhibitions and got a call to say a member of the public was wanting to buy her artwork. ‘‘It wasn’t even for sale,’’ she says. The art was a photo of her dog Nala in the Karangahake Gorge with overlaying photo editing to include nature within the animal (or the animal in nature). She had taken photography for NCEA and was approached by the group to display her work. ‘‘I try to capture the animal in its environment. I like to edit photos to make them a bit more interesting,’’ she says. Megan, 17, is from Whiritoa and is one of the youngest members of the group. She loves animals and is undertaking an animal care course. The artist says she’s a little introverted so taking photos is a creative outlet for her. Animals are her subject of choice. She will be displaying more works at the coming Mid Winter Mingle. This time, she’s chosen native birds overlaid with nature.
